Here we tell the story of the beginnings of our community and the future plans.
The Background
There has been an Islamic community in St leonards on-Sea since the early 1980’s, In the mid 1980’s
a Mosques was established at Mecatoria St Leonards on-Sea, serving the surrounding towns such as Rye, Pett, Battle, Bexhill
and Eastbourne.
Over time the Muslim community has vastly outgrown the St Leonards Mosque, in terms of space and services,
such as education for both the younger generation and the parents. As a direct result of this a Mosque has now been established
in Eastbourne. The Sisters of COFAM provide Islamic and Arabic lessons on a regular basis in the Gensing Community centre.
An initiative in presently underway to establish a Mosque in Bexhill-on Sea.
